In addition to the WiFi internet connectivity that it has had since launch, the latest NOW TV boxes from Sky have an integrated ethernet socket that can also be used to connect to the internet.
The ethernet socket is highlighted in red on the image at the top of this page.
We strongly recommend that you use the ethernet socket as a cabled ethernet connection is technically better than WiFi for transmitting streaming video.
Ideally you should connect a cable directly from your NOW TV ethernet socket to one of the spare ethernet sockets on your router, but in most domestic situation this is not usually practical because the router would typically be in a different room from the TV.
If that is the case then the simplest and most cost-effective solution is to use HomePlug adaptors.
A HomePlug solution comprises at least two mains adaptors: a master adaptor and up to 15 slave adaptors for connecting multiple devices around the home or office.
The master adaptor would connect via an ethernet cable to one of the ethernet ports at the back of your existing broadband internet router.
The slave adaptors would plug into mains sockets in the areas where internet access, or a network connection, is required in your premises.
The diagram below illustrates a typical HomePlug solution where the master adaptor is connected to an internet router and the slave adaptor is connected to television equipment such as a NOW TV box or a Smart TV:
Additional slave HomePlug adaptors can be connected simply by plugging them into mains sockets that are convenient for the devices that require connection to the network.
The HomePlug adaptor that we recommend is the BT Extender 600.
The TP-Link TL-SG105 recommended above can support up to 4 x devices.
If you need to connect more devices then you should choose the TP-Link TL-SG108.
The TL-SG108 can support 7 devices and (at the time of writing) is available from Amazon for £19.98 by clicking this link.
