BBC Grafton House Productions asked Premitel to design, supply, install and configure the network and phone infrastructure for their “Clique” production office in Edinburgh.
Although it was a short term requirement for 5 months, they still needed high capacity, high quality internet connectivity plus a VoIP phone system with 16 x extensions.
We had previous experience with similar sized production sites and we knew that ADSL and/or 4G internet solutions did not have the required capacity to meet the demands of up to 25 staff with laptops, tablets and smartphones requiring access to high bandwidth media streaming services in addition to general internet browsing and email.
We therefore recommended a leased line internet connection. This was expensive for a short term production, but it was necessary.
In addition to arranging the internet connection, we designed, installed and configured a network that comprised:
- 1 x leased line router
- 1 x 24 port POE network switch
- 3 x dual band (2G & 5G) wireless access points with central controller
- 20 x VoIP extension phone system with a combination of desk phones and cordless phones
The equipment listed above was connected to a Cat5e structured cabling system installed by us.
It is also worth noting that during the 4 week lead time for provision of the leased line we provided internet connectivity using a 4G router on the Three network.
This was not ideal, but it was better than nothing.
Connectivity had to be managed by ensuring that only a few staff had access to the WiFi security code.
