Glen House asked Premitel to propose a solution for providing WiFi coverage throughout Glen House for both staff and guests.
This was not straightforward due to the size of Glen House, the thickness of the walls and the need to take account of its stately and imposing decor and architecture.
Fortunately, Premitel had previous experience with this type of WiFi project at Dalkeith Palace for the University of Wisconsin in Scotland.
Following a survey of Glen House, we established that approximately 20 x wireless access points would be required and that these would need to have a controller to enable easy management of multiple networks, to support load balancing and to enforce security policies.
The Premitel solution also ensured the best possible performance by proposing equipment that supported the latest 5 Ghz AC WiFi standard.
The owners at Glen House accepted our proposal and asked Premitel to design, supply, install and configure the proposed WiFi solution.
The first phase of the project has been completed with 10 x wireless access points providing service to the main area of the house.
Premitel have also been asked to provide proposals for upgrading the phone system at Glen House to a VoIP system.
The problem here is that the existing phone system is about 20 years old uses twisted pair telephone cabling.
It is impractical and costly to replace the twisted pair cabling with a Cat 5 or Cat 6 structured cabling solution.
We are therefore looking at way of using the existing cabling so that it can support VoIP.
